Welcome to the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment! Our priorities are driven by The Rye Commitment in order to ensure that our students are engaged in learning that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, effective communication, and creative problem solving. In addition to that, we also ensure that our faculty is supported with ongoing professional learning that is high quality, relevant, meaningful, and allows them to evolve and expand their practices. Backed by the NY State Next Generation Learning Standards, our curriculum offers students rich opportunities to pursue their interests in a rigorous classroom environment that not only focuses on academics, but also helps students become socially responsible, caring citizens.
Through the use of differentiated instruction, we work to address the broad needs of all students. An assortment of instructional approaches are used to support students who need additional scaffolding and at the same time, provide others opportunities to expand and build upon strengths. Making differentiation a priority, allows us to offer each student an appropriate level of challenge throughout our academic program.
Our instruction is also driven by careful and frequent assessment. In addition to the New York State required assessments (Grades 3-8 ELA and mathematics assessments, Grade 5 and 8 science assessments, and Regents exams), we utilize a universal screener (NWEA Maps Growth) in grades K-8, phonemic awareness and phonics assessments in grades K-2, DIBELS and reading running records in grades K-5, and classroom unit assessments throughout the year. Combined, these assessments create a profile of each learner that is used to address their individual academic needs.
For a more in-depth look at the type of learning our students are engaged in, please visit the elementary, middle, and high school curriculum pages.
