Dear Midland Community,

Welcome to Midland School!  The Midland School family is comprised of a devoted staff of teachers, administrators, support staff, and parents focused on the academic growth and character development of our students.

The elementary school years are critical to the positive and productive trajectory of a life-long learning experience for our students.  The Midland School Community is focused on constructive and authentic instruction aligned with the requirements of the NYS Learning Standards Standards. The Rye City School District has devoted considerable time, energy, and resources to updating our core instruction. Teachers have invested a tremendous amount of work and energy implementing Columbia University’s Teachers College Units of Study in Writing and Units of Study in Reading. We are excited about the adoption of Math In Focus after a thorough pilot program across the three elementary schools as well as the continued rollout of Science 21 based upon the Next Generation Science Standards.

Midland School is fortunate to have the highest levels of support from our Parent Teacher Organization. The tremendous generosity of Midland families provides the Midland PTO with opportunities to support the purchase of Chromebooks for the classrooms, the funding of teacher grants for professional development, field trips, and classroom-based projects.  The PTO has been a critical partner in the implementation of the Midland Green initiative. Through the PTO’s support, Midland adopted a recycling/composting program in the cafeteria. The PTO has also purchased a filtered, bottle-filler water fountain for student and adult use. These positive additions have enabled Midland School to drastically reduce the volume of garbage our school produces on a daily basis.

Midland School is surrounded by community resources so important to the academic, cultural, and social/emotional development of our students.  The Rye Arts Center and Rye Nature Center are within walking distance to Midland and provide engaging, hands-on activities throughout the school year.  The District’s partnership with the Rye Youth Council has had a positive and lasting influence that serves our students well as they continue to grow and mature.

We look forward to seeing you at Midland School to share in the joy and wonderment of learning and discovery that our students experience every day.
