English language arts is a vital part of the student’s education.  The department focuses on communication skills.  Critical reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills are an important part of the department’s work.

Teachers guide students in developing rich and diverse reading lives, encouraging them to read fiction and non-fiction work to build their reading comprehension.  With the guidance of their teachers, students write extensively and approach writing as a process. Reading and writing experiences provide the basis for communicating ideas, forging connections between individuals, and understanding universal themes.
