Community Update: 10/18/24

Dear RCSD Community,

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend. Get your motors running, because there is a LOT going on in town this weekend and next!

Classroom Visits

But first, indulge me as I talk about one of my favorite subjects, THE WEATHER. RMS science teacher Harold Brosowsky was kind enough to allow me to make a guest appearance at two of his Earth Science classes to talk with students about meteorology. And was this ever the week to do it, given that we are currently experiencing a super moon and the new moon, both of which combine to have a big effect on tides, which in turn sometimes have an impact on our school campuses and fields. Let’s just say I’m pretty happy that we haven’t been getting a lot of rain lately, even if my lawn is brown.

Whodunnit in Three Shows

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. and tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., the Rye High School Parsons Street Players are presenting Clue: On Stage at the RHS Performing Arts Center. Clue is a farcical murder mystery adapted from the 1985 film Clue, itself based on the popular board game of the same name. Parents of younger theatergoers please use discretion as the play includes some adult themes. To the cast and crew: break a leg!

RHS Girls Varsity Soccer

The girls varsity soccer team is undefeated league champions after Wednesday night’s 4-0 win over the Harrison Huskies. They travel to Arlington this afternoon to take on the Admirals. The game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. – watch it on LocalLive here. Go Garnets!!

Osborn Scare Fair

Tomorrow is the annual Osborn Scare Fair, taking place from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., and the weather is looking amazing: 70 degrees and sunny. Break out those corduroys! For those who haven’t been, the Scare Fair takes place at Osborn School and includes an array of Halloween-themed delights, including inflatable bouncy houses, midway-style games, rides, food trucks, and a bake sale. New this year is a ginormous rock climbing wall and a special game area set aside for younger fairgoers. Head on over for a ghoulishly good time!

Next Week/Weekend: Pep Rally and The Game

The annual pre-Rye Harrison varsity football game pep rally and bonfire will take place next Thursday, October 24 beginning at 7:00 p.m. After gathering in the RHS main gym, fans will proceed to the bonfire site adjacent to Blind Brook, directly behind the visiting team bleachers. Please note that while all are welcome, elementary- and middle-school-aged students must be accompanied by an adult.

The 97th edition of the Rye Harrison game is coming up next weekend. Kickoff is at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, in Nugent Stadium at Rye High School. Look out for an email from RCSD Communications early next week with all the logistical details. The information will also be posted to the home page of the District website and sent to local media so everyone in the community can prepare for game day. Go Garnets!

Sincerely,
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
