Community Update: 1/10/25
Dear RCSD Community,
I hope everyone had a wonderful winter recess and that the first week of school was a good one!
Winter Weather Protocols
I feel like we dodged a bullet on Monday morning! I will now reveal that I did have a 2-hour delay message locked and loaded just in case. I want to remind everyone of our snow day protocols. I do my very best to make the call the night before if at all humanly possible. You will be notified by text, email, and phone (yes, there will be singing, but not by me). If it’s too close to call, families will hear from me via text, email, and phone at approximately 6:30 a.m. Faculty and staff will hear no later than 6:00 a.m. We will also post delay/closure information in the pop-up bubble on the District website.
Superintendent Search Update
You should have received an email this week from the Board of Education regarding the Superintendent search process. If not, it is linked here. The Board is looking for community input into the leadership profile for the District’s next Superintendent. There’s an online survey to complete and two community forums to choose from next week - one in person and one online. Please participate and make your voice heard!
- Tuesday, January 14, @ 9:30 a.m. in person (Milton School Auditorium)
- Wednesday, January 15, @ 7:00 p.m. via Zoom (Meeting ID: 858 8893 0037 Passcode: 340851)
RMS & RHS SEL Presentation
Although it seems like an age ago, at the December 17 Board of Education meeting, we heard a presentation about what the District is doing to support social emotional learning (SEL) at the high school and middle school. We heard from counselors, social workers, high school and middle school students, and school principals. The ultimate goal of this important work is to enhance the environment within the schools to ensure students feel a sense of belonging and connection with their community. To watch, click here and start at 3:05.
Traffic Safety Reminder
The Rye Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Committee (TPS) has asked me to remind folks that left turns are prohibited from Apawamis Avenue onto Milton Road on school days between the hours of 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. This is the busy intersection nearest to the side door of the High School Science Wing, and it’s where students cross Milton Road to get to the High School/Middle School in the morning. The committee knows that the restriction isn’t well posted and is working to have something more noticeable installed.
Stay warm out there!
Sincerely,
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
