Community Update: 2/14/25
Dear RCSD Community,
Happy Valentine’s Day! I feel like we had a narrow escape from another delay or snow day (or two) this week. Fortunately, most of the precipitation happened overnight and consisted of more rain than snow. I blame Punxatawy Phil and Cluxatawney Henrietta (of Muscoot Farm in Katonah) who both prognosticated that we will have to wait a while for spring. I will be thrilled when the warm weather returns and I no longer have 4:00 a.m. weather calls with my fellow local superintendents. I imagine you all will also be delighted not to hear from me bright and early.
Presidents Day/Mid-Winter Recess
This Monday is the Presidents Day holiday, followed immediately by our mid-winter recess. Schools are closed all next week; offices are closed Monday and open Tuesday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please note I will not be sending a Community Update next Friday, February 21.
2025-2026 Calendar
The RCSD 2025-2026 school year calendar is out, and linked here. The Board debated another option that had a shorter winter break, but opted for this calendar because it provided more school days in September, which teachers and parents alike have told us is important for starting the school year off strong.
2025-2026 School District Budget
At Tuesday evening's Board of Education meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Business & Operations Gabriella Perruccio and I presented the Superintendent’s proposed budget for the 2025-2026 school year. The video is linked here; start watching at 2:05. Please excuse all the sneezing and coughing. The Central Office was hard-hit by a plethora of viruses this month. The proposed budget is tax cap complaint and we will be discussing it extensively over the next few months. The budget and Board of Education trustee vote this year is Tuesday, May 20, at the Rye Middle School gym. Watch this space for more information!
Mark Your Calendars for “Grease”
The RHS Parsons Street Players are presenting “Grease” the weekend after break: Friday, February 28, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday March 1, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m in the RHS Performing Arts Center (PAC). I’ll remind you again on the 28th, but mark your calendars now. Grease is the word!
Sincerely,
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
