Community Update: 2/7/25
Dear RCSD Community,
Well, that didn’t exactly go as I had hoped! I tried to make the “right” call on Wednesday night, but early on Thursday morning, it was clear that the ice on the roadways up north (where many of our teachers and staff live) was going to make driving treacherous. Making snow day and delay calls has to be one of the most stressful parts of being a Superintendent. Coming from a dual working parent household, I know how difficult it can be to change childcare arrangements at the last minute, so I do try hard not to close. As a result of Thursday’s snow day, we will now have school on Tuesday, May 27.
Winter Storm Garnett
Unfortunately, it appears that Mother Nature isn’t done with us yet. We are tracking a Saturday night storm which may impact some games. It is aptly called “Winter Storm Garnett.” There is another system that is headed our way on Wednesday. I’ll be keeping a close eye on that as well.
Report Cards
As you may know, the first marking period (at Midland, Milton, and Osborn Schools) and the second quarter (for RHS and RMS) of the school year ended last Friday the 31st. Report cards will be available on the Parent Portal this afternoon after 3:00 p.m. for the elementary schools and after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, for RMS and RHS. We are officially halfway through the school year. That was fast!
National School Counseling Week
This week marked National School Counseling Week. I'd like to extend my deepest gratitude to the school counselors here in the RCSD. Day in and day out, our counselors work tirelessly to support students and their families, helping them navigate the educational and social waters of our schools and supporting their mental health so that all of our students can achieve their greatest potential. They are:
Midland School: Daniela Sciscente
Milton School: Rosie Ceglio
Osborn School: Emma McCabe
RMS: Dina Farewell, Robert Villanova, and Vanessa Caine
RHS: Garrett Renner (Director), Charles Cipriano, Jamie Condon, Honor Fagan, Jennifer Herwick, and James O’Hara
Thank you also to the counselors from Effective School Solutions mental health services, Andrea Diaz and Corina Manders, and to our partner counselors from Westchester Jewish Community Services working at our satellite mental health clinic at 324 Midland, Graciela Cerda and LeRoy Ennis
Enjoy the Super Bowl, for those who are tuning in. I will be sulking on the couch in my Jets jersey, consoling myself with nachos.
Sincerely,
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
