Community Update: 3/21/25

Dear RCSD Community,

Welcome, spring! Today doesn’t feel particularly springy, but I feel balmier days are on the way.

April 21 and May 23 Snow Days Returned

In case you missed my email yesterday afternoon, I believe it is now safe to “return” the days of Monday, April 21, and Friday, May 23, as unused snow/emergency days. We will not have school on April 21, or May 23, and RCSD offices will be closed as well. This adds a day to our Spring Recess and to our Memorial Day weekend. We will have school on Tuesday, May 27, due to our snow day on February 6.

Community Budget Cafe

If you’d like to learn more about the proposed 2025-2026 school district budget, please consider coming to our Community Budget Cafe on Tuesday, March 25, from 6:00-6:30 p.m. in the RMS Multipurpose Room. It’ll be an informal, roundtable-style format where you can talk one-on-one with central office administrators about what the proposed budget supports.

Girls Varsity Basketball Team Ends Season

Sadly, the girls varsity basketball team lost to Baldwin High School in the regional finals last Saturday. They end the season with a record of 21-4 as league champions, Section 1 AA champions, and regional finalists. What an incredible season! Congratulations to the team, their parents, and Coach Margo Hackett.

RHS Chess Team Makes Moves

Big kudos to the RHS Chess Team which finished in 3rd place in the Under 1800 chess section (a rating by the US Chess Federation) at the New York State High School Chess Championships in Saratoga Springs held March 15-16.  Connor Galvez placed first in the U1800 and Zach Ramsey placed first in the U1400. They brought home a tremendously tall trophy.  Congratulations to the team and coach Felix Lopez. The team has been sharing their love of chess with the RHS community by launching a weekly chess club with advisor George Krajca. The club is already 25 members strong!

The Game 2025

Section One has given us the date and time for the 98th edition of the Rye Harrison game. It is Saturday, October 25, and it will be played at Harrison High School this year. Harrison has confirmed the time for 1:30 p.m. Mark your calendars and Go Garnets!

Have a terrific weekend.

Sincerely,
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
