Community Update: 3/28/25
Dear RCSD Community,
Spring has finally sprung. We are looking at a high of 74 tomorrow! Perfect weather for a car wash…
Baseball Car Wash at RHS Tomorrow
The varsity baseball team has its first scrimmage this Saturday (away vs. White Plains). Immediately after, from 3:00-5:00 p.m., they will be holding a car wash. Come on down to the high school and get your buggy buffed while supporting the team. Go Garnets!
BOE Budget Presentations/Next Steps
At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board heard presentations on the 2025-2026 school year budgets for Technology (start watching at 10:07), Athletics (start watching at 1:04:54), and Facilities (start watching at 1:31:28) portions of the budget.
At the next meeting on April 8, the Board will ask any final questions about the proposed budget. If all goes well, they will then adopt the budget, and this will be the budget that is put forward to voters on May 20. It will also mean that I will begin my annual budget roadshow, where I get out and about in the community to provide information on what the budget funds! Look for me at an upcoming PO/PTO event, at The Osborn, Rye Rec, and lots of other spots around town.
Children’s Philanthropy of Rye
If you’re not familiar with this group, I want to tell you a bit about them. Their mission is to support families of students in the RCSD who qualify for federally-funded lunches. I think it will come as no surprise that more families meet this criteria than ever before. Children’s Philanthropy raises funds to provide these families with gift cards to local grocery stores to use over school breaks -- times when these families would normally rely on meals served at school. They also provide gift cards from Target to help buy essentials and provide scholarships for Rye Rec summer camp. This year, they are hoping to provide 75 families with Stop and Shop cards to use over the spring break. Please consider making a donation. The link to donate is here.
Have a terrific weekend,
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
