Community Update: 4/11/25
Dear RCSD Community,
So much cold and rain! Let’s hope it brings some of those May flowers, stat. In the meantime, the weather has been causing a lot of disruption. The Midland playground ribbon cutting had to be moved from Monday to Wednesday this week. Lots of sports practices and games have been affected. We were able to get the sod delivered to the newly-renovated High School/Middle School softball field in between downpours. I don’t know about you, but I feel like March and April were a bit of a slog this year - literally as well as figuratively!
Spring Recess
Next week marks our spring recess. Schools are closed Monday, April 14, through Friday, April 18, and also on Monday, April 21 (an unused snow/emergency day). Offices are open April 14-16 from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. You won’t be hearing from me next Friday.
Adopted Budget
At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board adopted the (tax cap-compliant) Superintendent’s Recommended Budget for the 2025-2026 school year. This means that I can now take my budget show on the road. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be out and about in the community, sharing the details about the budget with various groups. We have a bunch of engagements already lined up, including residents at The Osborn, The Chamber of Commerce, The Rye Recreation Seniors Group, The Lions and Rotary Clubs, and of course, all five schools’ PO and PTO meetings. I hope to see you at one of my stops.
New Superintendent of Schools
At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Board announced its pick for the next Superintendent of Schools for the RCSD who just happens to be Dr. Tricia Murray, the current Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment. I couldn’t be happier with their decision. I know I am leaving the District in excellent hands with Dr. Murray, who is a consummate professional and a wonderful person.
