Community Update: 4/25/25
Dear RCSD Community,
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable spring recess. It seems that while we were on break, spring actually showed up. We are now into the fourth and final quarter of the school year, also known as “busy season.” Last night was the Senior Arts Awards, which kicked off our senior class celebrations. It was also the Rye Youth Council’s Spring Soiree. I was incredibly flattered to be the honoree, but in my opinion, the true honors should go to my colleagues in our five schools who spend every day working to make sure our students are supported so they can be their best socially and emotionally.
Tonight is the junior prom, and tomorrow is the Rye Little League and Rye Girls Softball Parade. I have been asked to throw out the first pitch on opening day, so you may see me out on the new softball field warming up my (very rusty) arm. Speaking of which…
Softball Field Ribbon Cutting
This coming Monday at 3:30 p.m., we will officially open the beautiful new softball field at Rye High School. Swing on by if you enjoy a good, old-fashioned ribbon-cutting ceremony. Stay on for the team’s first home game on the new field vs. Mahopac at 4:30 p.m. I hear that “if you build it, they will come.” Let’s go Garnets!
Welcome, Dr. Murray
You are cordially invited to a reception to welcome incoming Superintendent Dr. Tricia Murray this coming Tuesday, April 29, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in the RMS Multipurpose Room. Light refreshments will be served. Come one, come all, and stay on for the Board of Education meeting that night - we’ll be taking a deep dive into the RCSD athletics program.
Voter Registration Day/Early Voting
This year has really been winging by. As we hurtle towards the annual school district budget vote and Board of Education trustee election on May 20, the District is holding a voter registration drive. Perhaps you moved to Rye from the City and never registered to vote. Or you moved within Rye and forgot to tell the Board of Elections. We can help! Come to the District’s central office at 555 Theodore Fremd, Suite B101, on Wednesday, April 30, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and we will get you squared away. To find out if you are registered to vote, click here to check on Vote.org. If you prefer to register online, a voter registration link is here.
If you’re already registered to vote, you can vote early by mail again this year. Simply fill out and mail in an early voting application, and you can receive the ballot by mail.
Administrative Professionals Day
Administrative Professionals Day was this Tuesday. I know the POs and PTOs always do a great job of thanking the people who keep our schools and offices running smoothly and efficiently. I want to add my thanks -- we are so lucky to have such terrific staff in our schools and at the central administration building.
School Principal’s Appreciation Day
National School Principals' Day is next Thursday, May 1! I’d like to preemptively say “thank you” to our dedicated principals at the five schools:
Rye High School
Andrew Hara
Rye Middle School
Joseph DiGiovanni
Midland School
James Boylan
Milton School
Annemarie Piekarski
Osborn School
Angela Garcia
Have a terrific spring weekend!
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
