Community Update: 5/9/25

Community Update: 5/9/25

Dear RCSD Community,

Busy season is officially here (accompanied this year by extreme rain and a resultant pollen explosion). End-of-year choral, orchestra, and band concerts are happening at every school, the High School is in the midst of administering 1,353 Advanced Placement exams, and end-of-year celebrations of every kind are coming up fast. In recognition of the struggle associated with tracking it all, we have once again created…

…the Beloved Year End School Calendars

The end of the school year is a joyous but hectic time at the schools, full of events, half-days, and the Juneteenth holiday. To help everyone keep track of all the comings and goings, we have created “refrigerator calendars” for June at the elementary, middle, and high schools. They are linked here

RCSD 2025-2026 Budget Vote and BOE Election

Thank you to those members of the community who joined us at Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting for the Budget Hearing. To watch the hearing, which includes a concise overview of the budget, click here and start watching at 3:55.

You may also learn more about the Budget and the two Board of Education candidates, Jane Anderson and Jennifer Boyle, by reading the Focus on Excellence budget newsletter here. A hard copy will arrive in your mailboxes shortly, but you lucky few get an early look.

If you’re already registered to vote, you can vote early. Simply fill out and mail in an early voting application, and you can receive the ballot by mail. The application in Spanish is here. Voter registration materials can be found here. You may also vote early in person by stopping off at the District office at 555 Theodore Fremd Avenue, Suite B-101. If you want to stay old school, please mark your calendars to vote on Tuesday, May 20, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the RMS Gym.

RMS Spring Revue

If you (or your little ones) are looking to get into a New York State of Mind, head on over to the Rye High School Performing Arts Center for the Rye Middle School spring musical revue, “New York, New York.” Shows are tonight (Friday) and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30!) and tickets are available at the door.

RHS The Academy Symposium May 15

Every year, seniors in The Academy at Rye High School take a year-long “Action Research” class. They formulate a research inquiry about something they are interested in. For example, this year, students delved into cerebral palsy, educational equity, community support systems, mental health disorders, and environmental sustainability. The students meticulously crafted case studies to explore their chosen topics within real-world contexts. At the conclusion of the class, they used their findings to enact positive changes within the Rye community. On May 15th, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the RMS MPR, the seniors will be hosting a symposium to highlight the amazing work they have been engaged in throughout the year. For those of you with younger students, this is a great chance to get an inside peek at The Academy. All are welcome, and refreshments will be served.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

Sincerely,
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
