Midland School Students Showcase Science Skills at Annual Fair

Fourth and fifth-grade students at Midland School explored a wide variety of scientific concepts as they presented their projects at the school’s Science Fair on April 24.

Topics included space, mold, density, chemical reactions, static electricity, and magnetism. In one investigation, the students tested water samples from three local beaches to determine which was the cleanest and which was the most polluted. Others examined how fireworks work, while another group designed and tested a rocket outside of school to measure the amount of force needed for launch. Additional projects explored the effects of artificial intelligence and demonstrated how CDs function.

“The students loved showing off their hard work and enjoy sharing their knowledge with the younger students,” said teacher Julie Vinci, who organized the fair alongside Greg Moraitis. “Some experiments connected to specific science units taught in fourth and fifth grade, but some pursued topics that they were truly interested in.”
