Midland Second Graders Explore Community

Second graders from Midland School recently took part in an engaging, real-world learning experience by exploring their local community. As part of the authentic learning project, the students visited the local bank, post office, fire, and police stations, where they interviewed employees to learn more about their roles and responsibilities. After preparing thoughtful questions in advance, the students conducted interviews during their visit and recorded the responses to support their research.

“They are now in the process of creating presentations based on the information they gathered from their research and interviews,” said Carrie Hughes, second grade teacher and grade-level leader. “They will share their final projects with their classmates, giving them an opportunity to teach others about what they learned from the experience.”
