Milton School Fifth Graders Shine in "Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr."

Milton School Fifth Graders Shine in "Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr."

A talented group of fifth graders at Milton School recently brought several zoo animals to life as they performed “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr.”

Over the course of several months, the students worked alongside theater professionals from Sandbox Theatre to prepare for the production, learning choreography and memorizing lines and songs throughout the show. For many students, it was their very first theater experience.

“The fifth grade play is one of the most meaningful experiences at Milton,” PTO member Megan Evans said. “The students take huge risks. They perform solos, learn dances and, because it is effectively the entire grade, many of them are doing theatre for the first time. It is a wonderful way to build confidence, practice long-term planning and memorization, and teamwork.”

The show follows four animals from New York’s Central Park Zoo – Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, Marty the Zebra and Melman the Giraffe – who unexpectedly leave their comfortable home in the zoo and end up on the island of Madagascar. Along with some penguin friends from the zoo, they encounter King Julien and his tribe of lemurs and decide if paradise is defined by where you are or who you are with.

Special thanks to the Milton PTO for its generous support in helping bring this memorable production to the stage.
