Ben Laschever, Rye High School Class of 2023 and current junior majoring in Film and Environmental Studies at Colorado College, received the Young Changemaker award at the Wainwright House’s annual benefit on October 9. The Wainwright House awards celebrate the “remarkable individuals who nurture and sustain the heart of our community. Rooted in shared purpose and a spirit of gratitude, this event honors those whose leadership, compassion, and vision cultivate a vibrant future for all.” The Young Changemaker Award is given to local individuals whose vision and leadership have a positive impact on the community.

The Wainwright House said of Ben, “[he] is a passionate storyteller, dedicated to championing underrepresented narratives through film. Growing up in Rye, he developed a deep appreciation for the environment, and that early connection to place shaped his sense of storytelling.”

“His work bridges creative practice and critical inquiry, weaving together themes of environmental justice and representation. Beyond the classroom, Ben has always held a profound appreciation for the Rye community and its immediate environment.”

Ben said he is deeply grateful to be recognized by the historic Wainwright House, and that the award “reaffirms his belief that film and community are powerful tools for fostering environmental appreciation and empathy.”

Founded in 1951, the Wainwright House is a nonprofit, non-sectarian holistic learning center. It provides a peaceful setting for personal and spiritual growth, offering classes, workshops, and events.

Congratulations to Ben!
