Rye City School District Honors NYSSMA Student Musicians

The Rye City School District recognized approximately 100 students for their exceptional performances and musical accomplishments at this year’s NYSSMA solo and ensemble festivals. The recognition ceremony, held in the Rye Middle School Multipurpose Room during the Board of Education meeting on May 19, celebrated students from elementary through high school.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tricia Murray, members of the Board of Education and music teachers honored the students who earned Rye Recognition of Excellence awards for exceptional musical achievement, including many students who received perfect scores in their NYSSMA evaluations. The honored students represented a broad range of musical disciplines and instruments, including voice, piano, violin, cello, viola, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, double bass and classical guitar.

The evening also celebrated the district’s designation as one of the National Association of Music Merchants’ (NAMM) Best Communities for Music Education. The national recognition honors school districts that demonstrate exceptional achievement and commitment to providing access to high-quality music education.

“Congratulations to all of our students and teachers on these outstanding accomplishments,” Dr. Murray said. “Their dedication, talent and passion for music continue to enrich our schools and inspire our entire school community.”
