Spirit Assemblies Bring Energy, Recognition and School Pride to Rye

Spirit Assemblies Bring Energy, Recognition and School Pride to Rye

Students at Osborn, Midland, and Milton elementary schools recently gathered for their latest Spirit Assemblies, celebrating achievements, reinforcing school values, and building community across each building.

While each school brings its own traditions and personality to the assemblies, all three share a common goal: recognizing students, promoting positive character traits, and strengthening school spirit.

Osborn School: Kindness in Action

At Osborn School, the assembly opened with an energetic performance by the fifth-grade pep band and orchestra. Student Council members led the morning announcements before the presentation of the beloved Ozzie Awards, which recognize students who go above and beyond and are nominated by teachers for their positive contributions.

Ozzie the Bear mascot joined the festivities, adding excitement and school pride to the event.

This month’s focus centered on kindness, with special emphasis on Osborn’s four key words: Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Teamwork. Those values, displayed on flags in the gym, served as a visible reminder of the behaviors and character traits students strive to demonstrate each day.

Midland School: Gratitude and School Spirit

Midland School’s Spirit Assembly opened with Principal Boylan welcoming students and sharing school reminders. The Student Council then recognized students by reading “WOW Moments,” highlighting those who went above and beyond and were nominated by teachers for their positive actions.

Mrs. Olsen introduced the host grade, second grade, which presented the character trait of the month, Gratitude. Students performed a song titled “I’ve Got a Gratitude Attitude,” reinforcing the importance of appreciation and positivity in daily life.

Special guests from the Midland Fair Committee joined the assembly to reveal this year’s Midland Fair theme, “Game On! Midland Gamers,” with the Bulldog mascot and parents dressed as video game characters adding to the excitement.

The assembly concluded with the presentation of a “Spirit Day Gift” from the host grade to the school community, which this month was Pajama Day.

Milton School: Recognition, Kindness, and Community

Milton School’s Spirit Assembly highlighted recent school activities, student accomplishments, and upcoming events. The February assembly included recognition of reading achievements, celebrating students who demonstrated grit and perseverance in reaching their goals.

Grade-level reading milestones were shared, with each class’s total minutes recognized during the celebration.  The assembly also spotlighted Milton’s fundraising efforts for the American Heart Association, where the school community raised $4,235.38 in support of heart health initiatives.

Students were recognized through shout-outs, and the theme of kindness was reinforced through discussions and visuals encouraging students to “be a bucket filler” and show care and inclusion in everyday interactions. Fifth-grade Student Council members shared current events and school updates, and Roary the mascot made an appearance.

Across all three schools, Spirit Assemblies continue to serve as meaningful opportunities to celebrate students, reinforce character education, and foster a strong sense of belonging. Through music, recognition, and shared experiences, Osborn, Midland, and Milton students are building school pride and strengthening their communities together.
