"Zephyr" Lit Summer Writing Winners

"Zephyr" Lit Summer Writing Winners

The Zephyr is Rye High School’s art and literary magazine, produced and published annually in May by the RHS Zephyr Lit Magazine club. This year, the club decided to hold its first-ever summer writing contest. Why over the summer? Because RHS students don’t always have time for creative writing over the course of the school year when they are busy with essays and research papers. Students were invited to submit original writing in the form of poetry, short stories, and creative non-fiction over the summer, with the deadline at the end of the first week of school in September.

The Zephyr club met during the second week of school to review the submissions and decide on the winners. The judges ruled, and the winners of Zephyr Lit's first Summer Writing Contest are…(drumroll, please)

In the category of Poetry, first prize goes to senior Melissa Pirincioglu's "Hour 24.”

In the Short Story category, first prize goes to sophomore Charlotte Brown for "Sofie."

And in the Creative Nonfiction category, first prize goes to senior Nicolas Allard for "The Endomembrane System."

Thanks to all those who entered -- the committee had many excellent pieces to choose from. Thank you as well to the Rye High School Parent Organization, which donated the prize gift certificates from Arcade Books.

Write on!
