RHS/RMS 3rd and 4th Quarter Grade Weighting

Dear RHS and RMS Students, Parents, and Guardians,

After extensive conversations with faculty, department coordinators, and administrators, and in conjunction with Superintendent Byrne and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Sheryl Goffman, we have made a decision about grading for quarters 3 and 4 of the 2019-20 school year for RMS and RHS students.

The consensus of all parties is that final grades for the school year will be weighted as follows: 90% for the first three quarters of the school year and 10% for the fourth quarter.  Following a comparable formula, for semester classes the weighting should be a split of 75% for quarter 3 and weighting of 25% for quarter 4. Final exams and final projects will be calculated into the fourth quarter grades and will be at the discretion of the department or team.

In addition, we will not be granting Incompletes for the third quarter unless there is a health or medical request.  Students will have time next week to complete missed work in time to be included in third-quarter grades.

We appreciate that not everyone will agree with this decision, but it is in the best interests of the students.

Please contact either one of us with additional questions regarding grading at Rye High School taylor.patricia@ryeschools.org or Rye Middle School edwards.ann@ryeschools.org.

Best regards,
RHS Principal Patricia Taylor and RMS Principal Dr. Ann Edwards
