Food Allergy Awareness Week Resources and Activities

Dear Elementary School Parents and Guardians,

May 10-16 is Food Allergy Awareness Week, a national effort to shine a light on food allergies and anaphylaxis. One in 13 children has a food allergy; about two students per classroom in the Rye City School District. Please help us by teaching your children about what a food allergy is, the potentially life-threatening nature of allergic reactions, and what kids can do to keep their friends with food allergies safe when kids are back in school together.

Attached please find a document of food allergy facts presented in a way that elementary children can understand. If your child likes to watch videos, consider having them watch a PSA video featuring Steve Carrell produced by leading nonprofit FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education).

Thank you for helping us raise awareness of this critically important topic.
