Milton School Assistant Principal Announcement

Dear Milton School Community,

I am so pleased to share with you the exciting news that Milton School will soon have a new Assistant Principal. Dr. Byrne will be recommending the appointment of Ms. Christina Monitto at the Board of Education meeting this coming Tuesday, June 23.

To find our new Assistant Principal, we conducted a rigorous search process, screening 165 candidates via a thorough resume review followed by two levels of interviews with District administrators and a committee of stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and support staff. Finalist candidates were asked to participate in an extensive interview with Dr. Byrne; Ms. Sherri Goffman, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment; and myself. Through the interviews, Ms. Monitto demonstrated a deep understanding of teaching and learning, the importance of collaboration, and supporting the whole child.

Ms. Monitto is currently an Academic Intervention Specialist at Milton School and an Integrated Co-teaching Staff Developer for the Rye City School District. In her role as an Academic Intervention Specialist, she supports students who are experiencing academic difficulty, reviews assessment data, and creates intervention plans in partnership with the classroom teacher and related service providers.  As a staff developer, Ms. Monitto supports special education, ENL, and classroom teachers by providing classroom coaching, and organizing and facilitating professional development.  Prior to her current role, Ms. Monitto taught first and third grades at P.S. 6 in Manhattan and third grade in an Integrated Co-teaching setting at P.S. 267 in Manhattan.

At Milton, Ms. Monitto will partner with me to support the social and emotional development of our students through our Character Education programs, including: Responsive Classroom, Mindfulness, and Start with Hello. She will also lead professional development for faculty and staff, focusing on the implementation of Integrated Co-teaching, Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop, and supporting the implementation of intervention plans.

Ms. Monitto holds a Childhood Education and History from Hunter College, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a certificate of Advanced Study in School District Leadership from Manhattanville College, School of Education.

Ms. Monitto and her husband Giani, live in Mt. Kisco, N.Y.  Ms. Monitto will be joining us in July.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Ms. Monitto to Rye and to our Milton School family as our new Assistant Principal.

Mrs. Annemarie Piekarski
Principal, Milton School
