RCSD Remote Learning For Special Education Students

Dear Rye Community,

As we embark upon remote learning, I want to assure you that the District is prepared to meet the needs of all students. This includes students with disabilities and students that have 504 accommodation plans. Our teachers and related service providers have been hard at work developing meaningful virtual learning experiences that include accommodations and modifications so that all students can access it. It has been amazing to see all of the work that all teachers have been doing, but especially our special education teachers, as they begin to learn and navigate how to meet the needs of students remotely.

In the next few days, you and/or your child will be receiving communications from teachers and related service providers. For students that have an IEP, please know that you can contact your child’s case manager if you have any questions or need any support. If your child receives a related service, your provider will be in contact with you so that you know how the service will be provided remotely.

Because I want the teachers and support staff to be able to focus on quality instruction, I have cancelled all K-12 CSE and 504 meetings for the next two weeks. We will reschedule these meetings for a later date and you will receive information in the upcoming weeks.

As this is a new undertaking for the entire community, I thank you in advance for your patience as we work to navigate through remote learning. As a parent with a child with a disability, this may be more challenging, but know that we are all in this together!  I am fully committed to helping students have the best learning experience for all students in this difficult time.
