Race, Inclusivity and Community Statement from Board of Education President Jennifer Boyle
Tuesday, June 16, 2020

I want to take a moment to acknowledge and recognize the peaceful protests taking place around our Country and the forthright feedback we have received from several former Rye High School students expressing their experiences with racial inequalities in our school community.

I would like to speak on behalf of the Board of Education and affirm our commitment to supporting the work underway in our district to ensure the environment and education of our students includes better racial awareness, understanding and diversity on all levels.

As a school board, one of our primary functions is to set policy that helps guide the way our school district operates.  This is a prime opportunity to re-examine our policies with a critical eye. Our school leaders, led by Dr. Byrne, are actively working to create the space and structure to begin these critical and difficult conversations as they relate to curriculum and the student experience.  In collaboration with the school community, we will work to promote more racial awareness, understanding and diversity on all levels.
