RCSD Technology Update

Dear RCSD Families, 

I hope all is well. Today was a great first day of the 2020-2021 school year. While we had a few bumps in the road with students accessing Google Classroom or Google Meet sessions, the technology team is confident that we have ironed out these issues. Early this morning we became aware that Google Meet was not filtering correctly, resulting in some students being denied entry to Meets/Hangouts when using District-issued Chromebooks. Fortunately, we were able to resolve that problem quickly and students should not experience any problems tomorrow. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we get our technology up and running smoothly over the next few days. 

As we move to the Hybrid learning environment on Thursday, I want to take a moment to remind you that students in grades K-12 will be using Google Classroom as their primary learning management system. To assist your child in accessing Google Classroom for the first time this year, please review the Google Classroom section below. 

Google Classroom

  1. Open your browser and navigate to Please note that Google Classroom runs best from a Google Chrome browser.
  2. To log-in to Google Classroom, please type in your child’s Rye City School District Google account information.
  3. Notes: 
    • If your child has not logged into Google Classroom by today, please contact their teacher(s) directly via their RCSD school email to receive the class code or join link. Teacher emails follow the convention:, or use the RCSD Staff Directory.
    • Students in grades 5-12 may adjust and personalize the amount of email notifications from Google Classroom. Please click here to watch a brief tutorial.

Google Meet

  1. As a reminder, the RCSD is using Google Meet as our main video conferencing tool. This tool is a part of our Google Apps for Education suite and is available to all teachers and students. If a teacher is running a live online session, they will provide your student with the appropriate information to join the session.
  2. If your child attends a Meet session a few minutes early or prior to the teacher launching the session, they will not be allowed to join the virtual session. Kindly try back in a few minutes once the teacher has launched the session for the class. 

Middle School Chromebooks

  1. Please remind students to bring their Chromebook, charger, headphones, and case to school each day they attend. Teachers will remind them to bring everything home at the end of the day.
  2. If you have not already picked up your District-issued Chromebook, please schedule an appointment to do so with Daniella Vitiello at 914-967-6100, ext. 2901, or email her at These devices come preloaded with the software your student will need for hybrid learning.

High School BYOD Program

  1. Beginning this fall, the District requires that Rye High School students bring their own computing devices, charger, and headphones to school every day for use in class. The use of these devices is restricted to educational purposes, and all students must use the District’s Google Apps for Education platform to access online resources and to communicate. Families that meet federal income guidelines may qualify for a District-issued device through the RCSD loan program. Please complete the application (click here for the application: English/Spanish) if you believe you qualify for this program. 
  2. Students who are using their own device will need to download Google Chrome in order to access the full Google suite of applications. We recommend that this browser is set as the default browser and students log in with their RCSD Google account. This will make sharing files between teachers and students much easier. Click here to watch a short video tutorial. 

Elementary Chromebooks for Grades 2-5

  1. Students in grades 2-5 were provided Chromebooks with preloaded software.
  2. If you have not already picked up your student’s device, please schedule an appointment with your school building administrator. 


  1. Students in grades 6-12 have access to the PowerSchool portal. For login information, please submit a help desk ticket (see below for links).
  2. Middle School parents/students: please print the current schedule as lunch locations have been updated.

Help Desk

For any technical or support questions, please use the Parent Help Desk ticket system. Students in grades 6-12 should use the Student Help Desk ticket system to report any issues.  The Technology Department will respond promptly; we are more than happy to assist you and/or your student with any questions you may have.
