Interscholastic Updates 7-12

September 25, 2020

Dear Rye Community,

First of all, thank you for your patience throughout the process of restarting interscholastic athletics. As we receive guidance and communications from Section One and New York State, we will continue to inform you of any new information.

If your child has interest in trying out for a JV or Varsity fall sport, they must be registered and approved on Family ID.  Please click on the link below to register.

FAMILY ID

Registration ends on Monday, September 28th, at 9:00 AM. If a student is not listed and approved, they are not eligible to try out.

To participate in athletics, parents/guardians must submit a health assessment form daily, not just on days the student is physically in school,  for their child. The Athletic Department will be running reports each day at 2:45 PM to clear students for participation.  Please be certain to fill out the health assessment by 2:30 PM. If a student is not on the cleared list, they will not participate in athletics that day. If necessary, a student may bring a signed assessment form should a last-minute situation arise.  Without clearance, the student may not participate and must be sent home.

The link to access the health form is:

If you have trouble with the electronic health form, please print out a paper form, complete it manually, and have your student bring it to  practice.

At this time, we are moving forward with tryouts for JV and Varsity interscholastic athletics.

The tryout process begins on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.  Please note we are capping rosters due to the NYS DOH Guidance, NYSPHSAA COVID-19 guidance and return to athletics recommendations. Therefore, we will be making cuts in our programs this year. As in years past, and in accordance with district policy, a middle school student will not be eligible to try out for a high school sport. Once rosters are finalized, we will hold parent and student athlete virtual meetings for all programs.

Modified Athletics

On Wednesday, September 23, Section One’s Executive Committee canceled all FALL modified athletics. Modified sports will continue to be revisited as we progress through the year.

In the meantime, we are planning a modified intramural opportunity for our 7th and 8th grade students.  We will be collaborating with Harrison to provide an opportunity for a cross-town intramural experience.   We will also provide an opportunity for a 6th grade intramural program, to support all Middle School students.  We will be sending further communication about the logistics of this experience, as we are in the planning stage.

I realize many things continue to change daily; we appreciate your support as we progress through the re-opening of interscholastic sports.  We are eager to give our students the opportunities to participate in athletics in a safe and healthy environment. With your support of the guidance and protocols we are putting in place, we will have the best opportunity to continue moving forward in a positive direction.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Athletic Department.  The NYSPHSAA and RCSD Return to Athletics documents can be found on the RCSD website under  Rye Athletics Resources.

Sincerely,

Susan Reid Dullea
