RCSD Library Check Out Procedures
September 27, 2020
Dear RCSD Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back from the RCSD librarians! We are excited to be back in our libraries, even if it is much different than the same time last year. We are gearing up to start checking out books to our students and wanted to take a moment to outline the health and safety procedures our libraries have adopted.
Any books that have been returned since last March have been quarantined for at least 3 days before being replaced on the shelf. This will continue to be our procedure as books are returned this school year. Please be patient as this might make the waiting list for popular books a bit longer. As always, please remind your student to wash his/her hands before handling library books.
Because students are not currently entering the library to browse for books, we will teach them how to request what they want to read in an age-appropriate manner. Older students will be taught how to place books on hold in our online catalog; younger students will indicate choices on a form they can submit. The books will be pulled off the shelf and delivered to students while they are in school to be taken home that day. Check outs will begin on Tuesday, September 29th.
Please do not worry about returning books by a certain date. When the student is finished reading a book, send it back in. Each building will have designated locations for book returns. Your student should drop books into the bin nearest to his/her classroom.
As always, if you have any further questions or concerns, please reach out to your school’s librarian. We are here to help! We hope that you and your family stay healthy and happy during this unique time in our educational world.
