RCSD Community Update: 5/6/22

Dear RCSD Community,

On Wednesday morning, I sent an email out to the community notifying them that all RCSD schools and offices will be closed on Friday, May 27, resulting in a four-day Memorial Day weekend. May 27 is an unused snow/emergency day that was built into the calendar and is not needed this year. I hope this makes for a nice break for all as we head into the end-of-year busy season.

Dr. Denise Pope, Challenge Success

Thank you to those of you who came to the PAC this Monday night or watched online as we welcomed Dr. Denise Pope, the founder and head of Challenge Success. Challenge Success helps high-achieving school districts like ours to reframe the discussion about what success looks like and to focus on educational rigor versus needlessly stressful student overload. Unfortunately, we were not permitted to record the event, but there is a wealth of information and resources available on the Challenge Success website:

RCSD 2022 - 2023 Budget Vote and BOE Election

Thank you to those members of the community who joined us at Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting for the Budget Hearing. To watch it, click here. You may also learn more about the Budget and Board of Education candidates by reading the Focus on Excellence budget newsletter here. A hard copy will arrive in your mailboxes shortly. In the meantime, please mark your calendars to vote on Tuesday, May 17, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Rye Middle School Gym. If you, a spouse, or family member will be out of town during the voting hours for any reason, be it work or travel, please vote via absentee ballot; applications for ballots are available here and can be returned to District Clerk Lauren McGowan by mail at 555 Theodore Fremd Avenue, Ste. B101, or by email to: If you’re new to Rye or recently moved within Rye, you will need to update your voter registration in order to vote in this and other elections. Voter registration materials can be found on the RCSD website here

National Teacher Appreciation Day/Week

This week marked National Teacher Appreciation Day (May 3) and Week (May 1-7). I know our parent organizations at the schools had a lot of wonderful things planned for teachers all week long. Hopefully, our teachers were feeling celebrated and appreciated; they are so deserving of our thanks each and every day.

Facilities Tours - Capital Projects

We are finally able to showcase some of the capital project improvements at the school district’s five schools. Below, please find tour dates and times at RHS/RMS, Midland, Milton, and Osborn Schools. The approximately 30-minute tours will be led by Director of Facilities Robert Gimigliano who has become adept at walking backward while talking. If you can’t make one of the dates listed below, never fear, we will offer more tours in the months ahead.  Tour Schedule

Lock Cars/Take Keys

The Rye PD has been reporting a record number of car break-ins of late. Please, please lock your cars, remove any valuables, and take your keys/fobs inside your house - both night AND day. Many of these incidents have been happening during the daylight hours - a new and unsettling trend.

COVID-19 Cases

We are no longer reporting case numbers on a weekly basis. Below, please find the New York State Dashboard where you may check school case numbers whenever you like -- we continue to report case counts to the state on a daily basis. The link is:

To all the mothers out there, have a wonderful Mother’s Day, and have a great weekend, all.
