Rye High School Bring Your Own Device Program

Dear Rye High School Students and Families,

Welcome (a bit in advance!) to the 2022-2023 school year.  We hope you are enjoying a well-deserved summer break and are looking forward to a promising school year.  As a reminder, all Rye High School students are required to bring their own computing devices, charger, and headphones to school every day for use in the classroom. We have learned that consistent student access to technology is a must, and serves as the only guarantee that students will stay connected and continue learning both in and out of the classroom.

The use of these devices, while students are in school, is restricted to educational purposes, and all students must use the District’s Google Apps for Education platform to access online resources and to communicate. Families that meet federal income guidelines may qualify for a District-issued device through the RCSD loan program. Please complete the application (click here for the application: English/Spanish) if you believe you qualify for this program.

The minimum requirement for student devices is an Internet-capable tablet or laptop that can access Google Drive and other approved websites designed by RCSD. Our goal is to provide students with in-class access to online resources, course materials, assignments, and interactive tools during class sessions. While cell phones can be a good resource, they cannot serve as a required device because they do not provide students with the full functionality of our applications. All devices will have Internet access via the school’s wireless network when on campus. We strongly believe that by the time students reach High School, the device they use for computing becomes a matter of personal preference.  We want students to use the device that is most comfortable and which will maximize their learning.

All students are solely responsible for any equipment they bring to school, as well as any additional costs incurred while using the device in school. The Rye City School District is not liable for damaged, lost, or stolen equipment. Rye City School District staff are not able to provide technical support for personal devices brought to school. All students must adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Acceptable Use Policy related to their devices. When students use technology inappropriately while on the school network, the same consequences apply as per the Code of Conduct, regardless of who owns the device.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you for your assistance, and we look forward to seeing you and your students in September!
