RCSD Community Update: 6/2/23

Dear RCSD Community,

Welcome to June, a month-long frenetic mix of final exams and projects, end-of-year celebrations, and moving up ceremonies. As a reminder, the High School, Middle School, and Elementary School end-of-year calendars are all posted on the homepage of the District website at the bottom in the “District News” section to help you keep track of it all. The link is here. And away we go!

Senior Prom/Graduation

Senior Prom is taking place tonight at the VIP Country Club in New Rochelle. We hope everyone has a terrific time and stays cool. A big “thank you” to the parent and teacher volunteers who have helped make it a special occasion for our seniors. Graduation is planned for Friday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m. in Nugent Stadium, with a rain date of Saturday, June 17.

Spring for Rye Tree Planting

I am happy to be able to report that 66 trees donated by Spring for Rye are in the ground at the Rye High School and Middle School campus. I have visited them twice this week and they seem to be settling in nicely -- they are getting lots of water as this has been a very dry week. Thank you to the organizers of Spring for Rye and to the community for this generous donation -- it will benefit all of Rye for many years to come!

The RHS Tutoring Center

Given that final exams are coming up, I wanted to draw RHS parents’ attention to the Tutoring Center at the High School. The center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. on weekdays with x-periods on Mondays and Wednesdays. It is staffed by two certified teachers and National Honor Society student tutor volunteers. High School students can drop in during free periods or community lunch for extra help, or just to find a quiet place to work. A video about the tutoring center is linked here

Slightly Revised 2023-2024 School Year Calendar

I know that just getting through the remainder of June is all many parents are understandably focused on, but I did want to notify the super-organized among you that we have made some minor changes to next school year’s calendar. For elementary school students, the April 11 parent-teacher conference day is now taking place on April 18, the day before the spring Superintendent's Conference Day. The revised calendar is linked here. And for those of you with rising seniors, we added graduation day to the calendar. It is Friday, June 21, next year.

RHS Boys Lacrosse are Sectional Champs

Congratulations to the RHS boys varsity lacrosse team! The team won its 10th sectional championship this week. They now head to the regional finals versus Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake at Mahopac on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The link to watch the game on Local Live is:

The Milton School fair is this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., rain or shine. Come on over for inflatables, games, food trucks, arts and crafts, a bubble show, dunk tank, and cake contest. Tickets are for sale at the front of the school.

Rhythm on Rye Concert June 6

Rye High School's co-ed a capella group, Rhythm on Rye, is holding its spring concert this coming Tuesday, June 6, in the High School Performing Arts Center at 6:00 p.m. Come on down for a rollicking good time.
