Yesterday, the Section One Executive Committee distributed a press release with an update on interscholastic athletics. The press release is attached for your reference, but in summary, it announced:
1- Girls tennis, cross country, boys/girls soccer, and field hockey will be eligible to begin practices on September 29th
2- High risk sports (as established by the Department of Health) including football, volleyball, and competitive cheerleading must undergo further discussion about their start date. At this time, the Department of Health (DOH) has established that these sports may only practice. We understand that NYSPHSAA will make a decision about games for these sports shortly. If competition in these sports is not permitted, Section One will look to support athletes by moving football, volleyball, cheerleading, and girls swimming to a condensed season model.
3- Once the Section is able to establish final season dates, it will communicate this to the community.
These guidelines are for high school sports only. The Section will continue to review middle school and modified athletics.
As more information becomes available, I will share it with the community.
Thank you, Susan Reid Dullea Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics
