RMS 6th-Grade Orientation Sessions
August 19, 2020
Dear RMS Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Rye Middle School. You will be receiving another communication later in August with details about the beginning of school, but I wanted to be sure that you are aware of the change of date for the sixth-grade orientation. A virtual gathering for incoming sixth-grade students will now be held on Monday, August 31. We are also inviting any new RMS seventh and eighth-graders to join us for the orientation.
Starting at 9:00 am on August 31, there will be a staggered series of 30-minute virtual meetings for students that take place via Google Meet. All students will attend a 30-minute Meet session at an assigned time (see at bottom for times), followed by time for questions and answers. Each team (R, M, and S) has a separate meeting time. Sixth-grade Guidance Counselor Dina Farewell, Director of Technology Kaitlyn Sassone, and I will review how to read a schedule, cover technology expectations, and answer any last-minute questions during this time.
Students who are new to the District will receive an individual communication from their guidance counselor about meeting times and will have the opportunity to meet other new students. The guidance counselors will conduct some ice-breaking activities and communicate all necessary information about the start of school during those sessions.
If you already have summer plans for the 31st, please do not change them, but if you are available, please have your child join us for their team meeting. Please see below for the Google Meet links/meeting times. Please note that your students must log in to the Google Meet using their RCSD Gmail information. Student schedules will be available on the Parent Portal on August 24 at 3:00 pm.
