Dear RMS Families,
We had a good first day back at school for our A-L group, with both our youngest grade and our newest students transitioning well and our returning seventh and eighth graders seeming right at home. The day went smoothly for the most part, and it was great to see students back in the building. We look forward to welcoming Group M-Z tomorrow for their first day in the school. We truly appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate the first week of the school year.
As a reminder, please be sure to complete the online health assessment form by 7:00 a.m. every morning. I recognize that this may seem like an early deadline, but we need to allow time for us to compile the lists before we open our doors. Submitting the forms before 7:00 a.m. will help expedite your child’s entry into the building. Please be sure to complete the form in the morning prior to school. Forms completed the prior evening will not show on the master list as completed.
Based on our experience today, we recommend that students arrive at their designated entrances at 7:30 a.m. to allow school personnel enough time to check them in a safe, socially-distanced manner. Also, please make sure your child prints and brings an updated schedule from PowerSchool until they settle into their routine. Please remind your children to charge their school-issued Chromebook before the start of school. It is critical that they arrive at school with a fully charged Chromebook. All students should have received their Google Classroom links and invitations so they can participate in class. If for some reason that is not the case, please reach out to your child’s team leader and/or elective teachers for the necessary links.
Beginning this Thursday, all students will attend a full day of school. Group A-L will attend class in-person, while Group M-Z will be remote and streaming into their classes. Group M-Z will attend class in-person on Friday, while Group A-L will be remote streaming into their classes. Students (both in-person and remote) will attend X period on Thursday and be dismissed at 3:00 p.m. Students will NOT participate in X period on Friday and school will be dismissed at 2:32 p.m.
We understand that some students had difficulty streaming into their art class today. Please assure your students that this was not their fault. Due to some very recent, unexpected staffing changes in the Middle School Art Department, several classes were not live streaming today. Our new art teacher, Ms. Donna Lindo, has recently joined us, but was not able to set up her Google Classrooms in time for the first day of classes. She is currently in the process of creating those Classrooms and sending out Hangout links to all of her students. Ms. Lindo, together with Mrs. Heinze, will be teaching several sixth and seventh-grade art classes until we are able to hire an additional art teacher. Over the weekend, we had an unexpected departure from the art department. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
It was great to see your children in class today, either in-person or online. If your student has any questions or concerns, please let us know. We look forward to making this school year successful for everyone.
