RMS Student Technology Update: 5/1/2021

May 1, 2021

Dear RMS Families,

As you know, since August, every RMS student has had their own assigned Chromebook device. Students are required to come to school each day with their device charged and in its carrying case. When students are in school, we ask that they only use their Rye Google Apps for Education account credentials. Logging into personal email accounts during school hours is not permitted.

Over the last several weeks, we have noticed that some students are using the Google Chat feature as a way to communicate with their peers during class time and it is proving to be a distraction during instruction. As a result, the District has decided to remove this application. Mr. DiGiovanni and I will communicate this to the students next week. Please know that students will still have access to all the other Google applications (Classroom, Gmail, etc.) and this will not prevent them from accessing any necessary instructional software/apps throughout the day.

At this point in the year, we ask that you make sure your child still has all of their device accessories including their carrying case and charging cord, and that they bring both to school daily. Students should also charge their devices at night. If you find you are missing any items, please submit a parent help desk request

Lastly, we are asking all families who have a District-issued Chromebook device to perform regular maintenance to keep the device up-to-date and working at its highest speed. Please do the following on a weekly or bi-weekly basis (links with how-to information are included):

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you,

Dr. Kaitlyn Sassone, Director of Technology/CIO

Mr. Joseph DiGiovanni, RMS Principal
