After an extraordinary cleanup push by our facilities and custodial staff, teachers and staff were able to return to the schools on Thursday and Friday to complete classroom set-up for the launch of the 2021-2022 school year.
As I visited the schools, there was a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation in the air as classroom carpets were rolled out, learning materials were posted on walls, desks and chairs came out of storage, hallways were treated to a buff and shine, and refrigerators in the cafeterias were stocked. I know I speak for my colleagues when I say we can’t wait to welcome back all of our students for fully in-person learning tomorrow morning.
Yesterday, after an extensive cleaning and sanitizing process that took place over the past week, we completed the critical remediation steps needed for the turf field and track at Nugent Stadium. I am happy to report that only minor repairs to the turf were necessary as the tarp did a fantastic job of protecting the carpet from flood debris. While we will still need to groom the turf several times this week as a final step, it will be ready to host athletic practices and games on Monday, September 13.
Please join me in thanking our custodial and buildings team for their truly incredible efforts.
